Wellness Policy

 

Changes in Food Service Since the Wellness Program Was Adopted

We now serve chocolate skim milk, 1% milk, and skim milk. We no longer offer 2% milk. Half of the bread used is wheat bread. Wheat flour is used in the baking of bread products. Whole grain turkey or chicken corn dogs are used. Reduced fat Doritos are used for Walking Tacos. All vending machine items are healthier snacks. No more candy is available in the vending machines. Water and juice products are available in the vending. More fresh fruits and vegetables are offered on the menu. Breakfast includes more whole grain waffles or french toast. All the fruit that is used in the can is either packed in its own juice, or in water. Salt and pepper are not used in daily vegetables. We have purchased some whole grain pasta. All cereals purchased are reduced sugar. Utilization of more casserole recipes which include either turkey or chicken. Minimal salt is used on the French fries. We use applesauce, oatmeal, and sweet potatoes in some of the dessert recipes. We use reduced fat dressing for salads when it is available from commodities. We are making the cookies smaller to reduce fat and sugar content. All ground beef is totally drained of fat before using it in the main dish. No salt is used on the potato wedges. Puddings are made with 1% milk.
